Starting your morning with a strong skincare foundation is just as important as taking your vitamins and eating breakfast. Whether you talk to your dermatologist, optometrist or even ophthalmologist, the common denominator is always protecting your body from harmful UV rays. When we wake up, cleaning our skin and starting out with at least minimal protection is the least we can do to set ourselves up for success.
Step 1: Wash your face with Cerave (the same one I mentioned in the nighttime post). A few times per week, I mix the face wash with Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Facial Cleanser. I also switch to La Roche Posay sometimes because my skin needs a change or extra attention.
Step 2: Apply a few drops of Simple or Bioderma micellar water to a cotton ball. Don’t drench the ball or you will notice there is water dripping down your face. You can find both of these products on Amazon if they don’t carry them at a local store in your city or country.
Step 3: A drop or two of Clarins Double Serum on your hands and gently tap, pressing upwards. This is also the same I use at nighttime. They just released a new version that I will be trying soon when my current bottle empties.
Step 4: Gently apply Clarin’s Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate to under eye and outer eye. This is also the same as the nighttime post but the general thought behind this is to prevent the fine lines that make you appear older than you are.
Step 5: Mix Clarin’s Booster with Multi-Active Day Cream. There are three versions of the Booster (Energy, Detox, and Repair) so you can use whichever one you need. These can also be blended when you’re applying a mask.
Substitutes: Embroylisse Lait Creme is my go-to alternative but another basic face cream that won’t irritate my skin is the Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion. The Cerave definitely has a lighter, liquidy consistency in my opinion but it gets the job done.
Step 6: Oil! I use the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil I bought at the Nordstrom Pop Up shop but there are so many options. This is no longer available at Nordstrom (I really hope they bring it back) but you can find it on Amazon or QVC.
Step 7: Apply Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ or La Roche Posay Broad Spectrum SPF 50 as the final step for protection against UV rays. Applying sunscreen daily has actually improved my skin as far as dark spots from pimples (adult acne is a real thing and don’t pick them). If there is anything I have learned in the last 15 years, it is that applying sunscreen daily makes a big difference. Sometimes the sun is doing damage when we don’t even realize it. Going to the beach or mountains? I will have a completely different post for that because that is a different beast.
