If you get the chance to travel to Florence, Italy… don’t let it pass you by. Art lovers are drawn to some of the greatest treasures here but I’ll tell you sitting and enjoying Italian dishes among friends is one of the greatest memories I’ll have. There are crowds of people coming in for different reasons, it’s not possible to list them all but I’ll say walk around and take it all in.
The Uffizi Gallery has marble statues and busts of Aelius Caesar in addition to paintings that you will want to stop and stare. Zeus’ lightning bolt on his shoulder caught my attention for sure.
Trying to snap a clear photo of The Birth of Venus of Sandro Botticelli is virtually impossible. There are so many tourists around this piece, I consider myself lucky to have seen it for myself. Studying it in Art History, I was just marveled at the real thing in front of me.
Church of Santa Croce is also a neat area to stop in while exploring. There so many streets and paths around that you can’t go wrong. There will, of course, be pizza and other great places to eat if you start to get hungry.
Trattoria Tiberio was my favorite place to eat in all of Florence! I want to go back here again and again. The food is magnificent and the people are splendid. It’s truly the most home cooked Italian food you can find. There are only a few places I love as much as this one. I also had the pleasure of listening to a few businessmen (British, German, Italian and Scottish) sharing their mutual disdain for American politics. Es tut mir leid. Mi dispiace.
Pisa is a short train ride from Florence and I highly recommend it! It’s so worth the adventure.
