Being a self-professed nerd, I love going to museums while traveling. I don’t even try to pretend I’m not a history buff. I can go in museums and identify works of art I learned about more than ten years ago. I am so passionate about learning and consuming more information (if you’ve taken StrengthsFinder assessment and Learner is a top 5 strength, you might understand). Whether I’m in Paris, Amsterdam, Italy, Greece or anywhere really, I buy tickets in advance to see some of my favorite masterpieces.
In Italy, you will find museums all over. Whether it’s in Firenze, Roma or smaller museums throughout the country, there are museums worth visiting.
In Paris, the Musée d’Orsay is actually my favorite. The Louvre might be the most well known but Musée d’Orsay houses my favorite piece by Edgar Degas.
From Paris, you definitely want to take a train to Chateau de Versailles. It’s a wonderful sight to see with the careful attention to details and ornate designs all over.
Madrid also houses another one of my favorites by Edgar Degas. I really love his ballet pieces. In Museo del Prado, you can take pictures and I have so many!
The advice I have for anyone wanting to visit museums abroad, book in advance and check with their Tourist Office to see if you can get a discount. I never have to wait in lines and that’s something I genuinely appreciate. Time is precious is especially true when you’re traveling.
