Island getaways are one of my favorite escapes from the overwhelming stress of everyday life. There is a sweet vulnerability about opening yourself up to new adventures whether you are going somewhere for the first time, or just making time to meet new people in one of your favorite places. Like anyone and everyone, I get to a point where I need the beach to find peace and calm. Memorial Day weekend on Grace Bay beach, I did exactly that.
Providenciales is not new to me and I’ve blogged about Turks and Caicos before. Even so, I wanted to experience a bit of what I was familiar with and try some new things. I’ll start with the most basic… I did not stay at the same resort/hotel because Alexandra renovated and transitioned into an all-inclusive property. For some, that might be ideal but when you know the island, you have favorite restaurants and don’t want to be limited to food on the property.
Coco Bistro is still one of the best eateries on the island and a great place for breakfast. The restaurant staff is incredibly sweet and although I don’t have small children, I couldn’t help but smile at how charming their interactions were with all the children dining with their parents.
Baci Ristorante is in Turtle Cove, an area that is one of the oldest on the island. The restaurant is one I would never skip. I highly recommend you make a reservation so you can secure a seat with a marina view for sunset. The food is mouthwatering and you really won’t regret anything you choose!
Mango Reef is also in Turtle Cove and it’s reasonably priced. The one problem I had was fighting flies for my dinner. I had to scarf my food down entirely too fast because it was a fight to protect it. The jerk chicken was delicious though! What you can enjoy without interruption is dessert… and this where I recommend indulging. I ordered the warm chocolate cake and the vanilla creme brûlée. Both were out of this world!
Hemingway’s at The Sands is the lunch spot I never miss. Order a rum punch or piña colada and relax. The sun may be warm and this is where you can just unwind for a bit. Their prices are modest and the deck is beautiful. I prefer their lunch over most on the island. I am not a snob but I am a picky eater. They make it easy for me to eat and have a good time!
